The word “exercise” often brings up images of strenuous activities and a hot, sweaty workout. But actually, it can be anything that involves the movement of the body that uses energy. This includes walking, gardening, pushing a stroller, climbing the stairs or dancing.

To enjoy a healthy benefit from a physical activity, it should be moderate or vigorous.

Get Physical! Moderate physical activities are things like:
Walking briskly
Gardening
Dancing
Golf (without a cart!)
Bicycling
Light weight lifting
Carrying or playing with your kids

Vigorous physical activities are things like:
Running or jogging
Bicycling at a brisk pace
Swimming
Aerobics
Heavy chores like chopping wood
Heavy weight lifting
Competitive basketball
Tennis
